Aluminium tray brings more load space and higher payload for an extra $1000
GWM Australia has expanded its local GWM Ute line-up with the addition of three new four-door cab-chassis ‘Cannon-CC’ variants, including Cannon and Cannon-L trim levels and both 4×2 and 4×4 drive configurations.
Aimed squarely at tradies and ‘primary producers’ rather than the recreational dual-cab 4×4 ute market, the GWM Ute cab-chassis body style is available in Cannon 4×2, Cannon 4×4 and Cannon-L 4×4 guises, with prices all pegged $1000 higher than the respective pick-up versions.
This means the entry-level Cannon CC 4×2 is priced from $36,990 drive-away, the 4×4 version from $39,990 drive-away and the Cannon-L CC 4×4 from $43,490 drive-away.
The cab-chassis’ utilitarian focus is further underlined by a $1500 discount available to ABN holders.
The GWM Ute cab-chassis offers an extra 80kg of payload at 1130kg (up from 1050kg for the regular twin-cab ute) and an extra 101mm of length in its standard aluminium tray, which measures 1730mm long, 1855mm wide and 235mm deep.
Like the established GWM Utes, all Cannon-CCs are powered by a 120kW/400Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel driving either the rear or all four wheels via an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission, with 4×4 versions adding a low-range transfer case and locking rear differential.
Combined fuel consumption is 8.4L/100km for the 4×2 variant and 9.4L/100km for the 4x4s on the basis of their full-time 4×4 system.
And braked towing capacity remains steady at 3000kg.
Standard equipment highlights on the Cannon-CC twins include 18-inch alloy wheels, LED exterior lighting, leatherette upholstery, a 9.0-inch infotainment system featuring Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Bluetooth, keyless entry and start, paddle shifters, rear parking sensors, reversing camera, passenger-side kerb-view camera and adaptive cruise control.
Stepping up to the Cannon-L CC 4×4 throws in a bunch of chrome exterior trim, powered wing mirrors, leather steering wheel, heated front seats with power adjustment for the driver, climate control, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, front parking sensors and a 360-degree camera.
Standard safety gear for all versions includes seven airbags, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and bicycle detection, hill-descent control, tyre pressure monitoring and traffic sign recognition with overspeed warning.
First examples of the new GWM Ute Cannon-CC have already arrived in Aussie dealerships, which will offer the new cab-chassis ute only in white, silver or grey paint colours.
