New HEV hybrid variant sees Kia Sorento remain our top pick among Australia’s best seven-seat family SUVs
The Kia Sorento has today been named carsales’ Best Family SUV 2022, making it back-to-back victories for the popular large seven-seat SUV as it raises the bar further with a new hybrid model this year.
The Kia Sorento HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) topped a short-listed field of eight highly-regarded family SUVs including the new Toyota Kluger Hybrid, Hyundai Santa Fe, Hyundai Palisade, Mazda CX-8, Mazda CX-9, Skoda Kodiaq and the Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace.

More than 130,000 new large SUVs were sold to Aussie buyers in 2021, and further growth this year has put them on the path towards a record annual sales result.
carsales’ Best Family SUV award recognises the best models in this category, targeting mainstream brands and assessing the most popular, best-equipped seven-seat all-wheel drive versions – all based on a road-friendly passenger car platform.
This year, the field was priced between $60,000 and $76,000 and covered hybrid, diesel and petrol engines.
As with all carsales Best awards, each contender was assessed against more than 100 individual criteria across five key areas: safety, technology, comfort and convenience features, driving performance and ownership costs.
Making it two wins in a row, the new Kia Sorento claimed our Best Family SUV award this year based on testing of the new HEV hybrid variant, after we named the Kia Sorento GT-Line diesel our Best Family SUV for 2021.
