Stay ahead of cyber threats. Simple steps to secure your carsales accounts, protect your data, and maintain customer trust.

At the end of 2023, we were excited to announce the implementation of Blocko, our dedicated spam lead mitigation tool. As we’ve now crossed into 2024, we’re proud of the continued work the tool is putting in to shield our dealers against bad actors and ingenuine leads. Mitigating spam leads is an important step we are taking to help safeguard our dealers, however, it’s also crucial for our partners to ensure they have their own robust cybersecurity measures in place.

To help our dealer partners mitigate risks and maintain a secure digital environment within the dealership, we have collaborated with our security team to bring you the below tips to ensure your cyber security is up to date:

Reviewing User Access

– Regular audits: Conduct periodic reviews of all users with access to your carsales accounts. Pay close attention to former employees, contractors, or anyone whose responsibilities have changed.

– Deactivate unused accounts: Immediately remove access for any users who are no longer affiliated with your dealership. Dormant accounts pose unnecessary security risks.

– Enforce least privilege: Grant users only the minimum level of access required to perform their jobs. This helps contain the impact of any potential breaches.

General Malware and Phishing Protection

– Employee awareness: Educate your staff to identify suspicious emails and links. Phishing scams, often disguised as legitimate carsales communications remain a top cyber threat.

– Software updates: Regularly patch your operating systems, web browsers, and antivirus/antimalware solutions to address known vulnerabilities.

– Email vigilance: Scrutinise the sender’s address, hover over links to reveal true destinations, and be wary of unexpected attachments or urgent requests for information.

Additional Tips for a Secure Experience

– Strong passwords: Enforce a strong password policy that requires complex passwords and regular changes. Consider multi-factor authentication for added security.

– Secure technology: Use protected Wi-Fi networks and implement firewalls to safeguard your dealership’s online activities. Ensure you apply the latest security updates to all of your applications, services and systems.

– Crisis management and incident response plans: Have a clear set of plans to follow in the event of a suspected cyberattack. Report any potential compromises to carsales support immediately.

– Backups: Ensure your critical data is backed up to a secure location either in the cloud or locally on servers or external drives.

– Stay Informed: Ensure technology teams sign up and receive the latest alerts and advisories from cyber.gov.au

Protecting Your Dealership and Your Customers

Having robust date security measures in place will help safeguard your reputation and earn the continued trust of your customers. By diligently following these best practices, you’ll strengthen your dealership’s security stance and protect the sensitive information you manage from falling into the hands of bad actors.
