AutoNexus installs 30-plus EVSE chargers nationally as brands including Subaru, Peugeot, Citroen eye EV market.

The number of plug-in hybrid and all-electric models available in Australia looks set to flourish in coming years following news that AutoNexus and EVSE Australia has entered a new EV charger partnership.

More than 30 new EV chargers have been installed at AutoNexus facilities around the country “to facilitate the company’s commitment to be the industry leader in electric vehicle (EV) fulfilment”.

AutoNexus is currently responsible for or involved in the pre-delivery processes of auto brands including MG, Subaru, Peugeot, Citroen, Suzuki, Nissan, Mazda, Genesis, Mahindra and Foton, seven of which currently have PHEV or BEV models either available in or under consideration for the Australian market.

The announcement is likely an indication of the imminent arrival of new PHEV and/or EV models from some of the brands not yet present in the electrified vehicle space locally.

Two key models in this sense are the Peugeot e-308 and Subaru Solterra, both of which are under evaluation for local release by their respective distributors, but neither OEM is willing to go into specifics just yet.

An Australian spokesperson for Citroen and Peugeot, which has committed to becoming an EV-only brand in Europe by 2030, told carsales that plans for “Peugeot’s first electric vehicles in Australia” were still being finalised and that the company hoped to have more to share “in the coming months” about its “electric passenger, SUV and LCV product offerings”.

For reference, the new-generation Peugeot 308 is due to arrive Down Under in the second half of this year – perhaps including an electric version for the first time.

Executives from both AutoNexus and EVSE said the new partnership will support the introduction of new EVs by a range of auto brands in Australia.

“A roadblock to the mass adoption of electric vehicles lies in vehicle logistics, with the ability to charge multiple cars at scale as part of the delivery process posing a significant challenge to new and established OEM EV brands,” said AutoNexus in a statement.

“To alleviate this concern, AutoNexus has proactively invested in a scalable and futureproof intelligent EV charging solution.”

The new AutoNexus stations are able to charge multiple vehicles simultaneously at up to 22kW.

“This proactive investment places AutoNexus in a unique position in the vehicle logistics market and ensures we are the partner of choice to support any brand’s electric vehicle requirements from the moment they arrive at our vehicle compounds,” said AutoNexus managing director Darren Bowler.

EVSE national sales manager Sam Korkees said: “We were able to co-ordinate a nationwide roll out in under three weeks and we hope to continue to work with AutoNexus as they move towards a clean energy future.”
