AutoGate now allows users to work with our customer service teams to establish and implement publishing rules that maximise advertising opportunities while keeping costs under control. 

  

By leveraging these tools, dealers can ensure the right listings are seen by the right audience at the right time, these include: 

  

  • Setting limits on low-profit or low-priced inventory: Control when and where these listings are published to focus resources on higher-margin vehicles. 
  • Prioritising lead management: Temporarily restricting listings that receive high engagement to give sales teams time to work through leads before re-listing. 
  • Supporting OEM directives: Restricting specific inventory from publishing to third-party sites until it meets publishing criteria, while still allowing visibility on OEM and dealer sites. 
  • Enhancing listing quality: Ensuring inventory meets dealership standards, such as including a minimum number of photos, videos, and detailed comments, before it’s published.

Our ongoing updates to inventory distribution are designed to provide even greater transparency and control for dealers. 

  

Recent releases:

  • Dealers can implement a number of customisable rules, including the above examples, across their inventory by talking to their carsales representative  
  • Dealers can now see in AutoGate which inventory items are restricted from being published and why. 
  • Active rules tied to restricted items are clearly visible, helping dealers understand what needs to be addressed. 
  • Dealers are notified if they attempt to manually publish a restricted item and are given the option to override the rule and proceed with publishing.   
  • A dedicated settings page allows dealers to view all active publishing rules in one place. 
  • Dealers will oversee where their inventory can be published across all destinations, streamlining decision-making and strategy planning. 

 

These updates reflect carsales’ commitment to continually improving the AutoGate experience to provide customers ongoing value, ensuring dealers have the tools needed to optimise their publishing strategies and maximise ROI.

How to Get Started with Publishing Rules 

 

Setting up customised publishing rules is simple and straightforward: 

  

Dealers who have signed up for Inventory Distribution can email our Dealer Support Team (DST) with their specific rule requirements. 

The DST will review the request and coordinate with our tech team to implement the rules on behalf of the dealer. 

If a manual change is made to a listing that then meets the publishing criteria, the listing will automatically go live without requiring additional batch updates. 

Dealers also have the flexibility to override rules manually, ensuring complete control over their inventory. 

 

To empower dealers to focus their efforts on high-priority inventory, ensuring every listing contributes to their bottom line, rules can be implemented based on criteria such as: 

  • Listing quality (e.g., number of photos or inclusion of video content). 
  • Vehicle details (e.g., make, model, year, odometer reading). 
  • Pricing parameters (e.g., no EGC/DAP or price range). 
  • Lead thresholds and listing stock age.
