Price increases for popular Toyota HiLux SR and SR5 variants as part of minor tech upgrade
Toyota Australia has detailed exactly what’s in store for the nation’s top-selling new vehicle, confirming the 2022 Toyota HiLux range will bring a welcome upgrade in standard features and safety equipment for mid-range SR and premium SR5 variants of the popular ute.
Due in Aussie showrooms from early October, the updated Toyota HiLux SR extra-cab and double-cab are being pushed a bit further upmarket in terms of their appearance thanks to a set of new black 17-inch alloy wheels – replacing steelies – and body-coloured door handles.
Meanwhile, the 2022 Toyota HiLux SR5 pick-up will inherit blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, a ‘panoramic view monitor’ and puddle lamps, the latter of which replaces the heating function for the wing mirrors.
Security on all SR5 variants – and the pending replacements for the Rogue and Rugged X flagships, the latter of which could be called the GR Sport – is being stepped up too, via a new ID Box anti-theft immobiliser, replacing the ancient steering column lock.
HiLux price hike
Predictably, the upgrades are coming at an extra cost to consumers, with prices rising by up to $1250.
According to Toyota Australia sales, marketing and franchise operations vice-president Sean Hanley, the latest changes will bring valuable improvements for customers.
“Toyota always strives to bring the best possible vehicles to market, and these upgrades have been implemented with our valued customers in mind,” he said.
Apart from the Rogue and Rugged X, replacements for which will be announced soon, the HiLux Workmate 4×2 double-cab Hi-Rider diesel manual has also disappeared from the 2022 HiLux range, which now includes just three equipment grades (Workmate, SR and SR5) across three body styles, three engines and two transmissions, plus 4×2 and 4×4 drivetrains.

Otherwise, for now, there are no changes to the rest of the 2022 Toyota HiLux range, which continues to open at $24,225 plus on-road costs for the entry-level Workmate 2.7-litre petrol manual 4×2 single-cab/chassis.
