It’s very hard these days to publish any type of industry update without commentating on Electric Vehicles (EV) and the subject of their residual values (RV) is a hot topic.
Redbook’s own experts have offered some thought-provoking insights on just this subject.
Against the total industry RV distribution (blue line), the analysis of the top five selling EVs in 2022 (represented by lightning bolts) shows a distinct gap when compared to the Auto Industry Mean.
We also added the highest and lowest Hybrid RVs (represented by green dots) as a comparison; and for a degree of shock factor, what the lowest EV RV was (represented by red lightning bolt).
No, we won’t divulge who is who. What this chart does show is that some EVs and Hybrids are among the industry’s highest performers in terms of RV. As a classification of vehicle, however, the majority of EVs still have much territory to gain against ICE vehicles when it comes to future retained value.
