While online shopping activity for new and used cars remains strong across most of the country, Victorian consumer engagement on carsales was hit hard in early August, before improving mid-month.
So with buyers out in force, what brands, models and segments were Australian consumers searching the most across new and used inventory?
And what was on their minds outside of normal search options?
Dive into our August search behaviour review below for the answers to those questions and more.
Stelvio SUV rises
Ford Ranger continues its reign as Australia’s most searched car on carsales.com.au in August, while segment rivals Mitsubishi Triton, Toyota HiLux, Isuzu D-MAX, Volkswagen Amarok and Nissan Navara and Mazda BT-50 also ranked highly.
The big mover of the month was the Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUV. Buoyed by prominent promotional activity on carsales, the Italian SUV leapfrogged mainstream and prestige medium SUVs to take third place in August.
LandCruiser maintains top spot
Is auto-based travel and recreation on the minds of Australians? The go-anywhere, caravan-friendly Toyota LandCruiser was again Australia’s most searched used car on carsales.com.au in August. In second and third positions were eternal rivals Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger, with LandCruiser Prado in fourth.
Ford Mustang was the only sports car to feature, while the sedan body style was represented by the Holden Commodore, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Toyota Camry, BMW 3 Series and Ford Falcon.
Dealer cars capture interest
Purchasing from a car dealer was on the minds of Australians in August, with ‘dealer’ entering the top 10 keywords on carsales.com.au. And as much of the country transitions to warmer temperatures and Australians dream of sunny road trips, keyword searches for ‘convertible’ rose by over 10,000 compared to July.
