Fresh from its January win in the VFACTS sales rankings, the Ford Ranger tops the charts for most searched new cars on carsales for January.
Despite ever-increasing waiting times, Toyota’s biggest 4×4, the LandCruiser, also proved popular in search rankings, pipping its smaller HiLux sibling for the first time in several months.
As economic realities start to bite, the more attainable Hyundai i30 hatchback ranks strongly with searchers, but the once-ubiquitous Mazda 3 ranked 20th and last in January.
Elsewhere, SUVs and dual-cab utes ranked strongly with people searching for new cars, but interestingly there were no appearances by EV-only brands like Tesla, BYD or Polestar.

Thanks in part to long delays for new vehicles, the Toyota LandCruiser tops the charts for the most searched used car on carsales in January.
Year-long waiting lists for the big 4×4 means that used versions are commanding big interest – and big prices – out in the open market.
With more new Ford Rangers hitting the road, used car searchers are also reviewing the carsales listings for second-hand versions, while Toyota HiLuxes are also garnering a lot of interest.
At the more affordable end of the scale, there is a strong search volume for the likes of the Toyota Corolla, Mazda 3 and Hyundai i30, while the arrival of an all-new Mercedes-Benz C-Class has piqued interest in used versions.
